Dr. Adrian J. Hernandez (He/Him/Él) is the Leadership Education in Adolescent Health (LEAH) Postdoctoral Psychology Fellow in the Division of Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine (AYAM) at Boston Children’s Hospital. He also holds an appointment as a Clinical Fellow with Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Hernandez is dedicated to supporting the physical and mental health of youth and their families via direct clinical practice, psychoeducation initiatives, scholarly research, program implementation and improvement, consultation services, and advocacy efforts. In his role at Boston Children’s, Dr. Hernandez primarily provides evidence-based mental health treatment and specialized evaluation services through the Division of AYAM and Outpatient Psychiatry Service, including the Eating Disorders and Strategies for Teen Empowerment and Physical Health (STEP) programs.
He has several areas of clinical interest, such as attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), affective disorders (i.e., anxiety, depression), borderline personality disorder, education and learning issues, ethnic-racial identity development, justice-involved youth, immigrant and refugee populations, managing stress, and trauma. Dr. Hernandez’s research interests concentrate on understanding the impacts of social determinants of health with a particular focus on drivers of health inequities, such as racism and discrimination.
